Caroline and Nick, finance professionals from McLean and Ohio, respectively, met in college at Miami University of Ohio. They began dating senior year, and five years later, Nick proposed on the Georgetown waterfront, before the pair headed to lunch at Fiola Mare, where—as a surprise to Caroline—both sets of their parents were waiting to celebrate.
For their wedding, the couple says they secured the earliest wedding date possible at their dream venue—January at the Hay-Adams—and decided to lean into the cozy, black tie, elegant vibe of a winter wedding. They chose emerald and white as the color scheme, with velvet green bridesmaids dresses, a green bow detail on their invitations and menu cards, and emerald green matchbooks—all among Caroline’s favorite details. Nick’s favorite parts were the overnight snow that he says made for a beautiful backdrop to the day, and the distinct live music elements that punctuated each part of the event, from the ceremony to cocktail hour to the reception.
Caroline wore a veil that was also worn by her grandmother, mother, and other family members, while Nick accessorized his look with White House cufflinks that he bought from the White House Historical Association for himself and his groomsmen. Highlights of the menu included butternut squash soup shooters to start, and late-night mini grilled cheese bites and cheeseburger sliders passed on the dance floor. Following the celebration, the newlyweds honeymooned in Hawaii. See the details of their winter wedding below.
