The Tables at This Wedding Were Designated by Framed Photos of “Pop-Culture Divas,” Such As Adele and Dolly Parton

Cory, an attorney from Massachusetts, and Tyrone, a high-school history teacher from New York, met at a bar in DC. After just a few dates—starting with their first at Bluejacket in Navy Yard—Cory left DC for a job in Philadelphia, but on the ten-year anniversary of their meeting, they proposed to each other in a whirlwind day that ended with drinks at their first-date spot.

The Petworth pair describe their wedding theme as “old Washington, with a twist,” featuring a venue with dark wood paneling and views of the Washington Monument and the White House; florals composed of white orchids, roses, and calla lilies; and a black-tie dress code. The signature cocktails paid homage to their roots: a Jamaican-inspired rum Negroni for Tyrone and a New England–inspired Dunkin’ Espresso Martini with a Munchkin garnish for Cory. The venue displayed the flags of Canada, DC, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Massachusetts, New York, and the United Kingdom to represent the grooms’ heritages and places they’ve lived. Reception tables were designated with framed photos of “pop-culture divas,” such as Adele and Dolly Parton, and the couple say keeping the dance floor full was a top priority, achieved with a great DJ and a playlist reminiscent of “the best gay bars.”
