Katherine, a medical sales rep from Rockville, and Tom, a financial advisor from Fallston, Maryland, met as college students at Auburn. They became friends at first, and then started dating a few years later, with a first date hiking the Billy Goat Trail back home. Three and a half years after that, Tom proposed on a post-brunch walk to the Broadway Pier in Baltimore.
For their October wedding on Kent Island, they wanted a light and airy aesthetic—reflecting, they say, the charm of the Eastern Shore—in a palette or black, white, and green. Their outdoor ceremony reflected their shared love of the outdoors and was the favorite for Tom, an avid sailor. Welcome bags featured Maryland favorites: Fisher’s popcorn, Candy Kitchen saltwater taffy, crab-shaped chocolates, and more; and favors included personalized match boxes. The menu was Maryland-inspired too: Oysters Rockefeller, mini crab cakes, and crab dip to name just a few of the dishes. For her “something blue,” Katherine carried a piece of her late grandmother’s wedding dress that had previously been dyed, and as her “something borrowed” she honored the same grandmother’s legacy by wearing her original engagement ring. After dinner, the couple scaled into a three-tiered lemon blueberry cake with cream cheese icing and blueberries. See the details from their big day below.
