DC Cherry Blossom Peak Bloom Is Predicted for March 29-April 1

Plus: Details about the 2026 National Cherry Blossom Festival.

The cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin are predicted to reach peak bloom from March 29 to April 1, 2026, the National Park Service announced at a National Cherry Blossom Festival press conference on Thursday.

Peak bloom is the date when 70 percent of Yoshino cherry blossoms are flowering at the Tidal Basin. Last year, it started on March 28, aligning with NPS’s prediction. Once the petals open, the flowers remain a fluffy pale pink for a few days, depending on the weather.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for March 20 through April 12 and features a variety of events. Here’s a look at the calendar:

 

March 13


Pink Tie Party

The dress code is all things pink for this party featuring cocktails and food from local restaurants. It’s also an opportunity to check out floral fashion and see artists perform. Attendees must be 21+. $275.

 

March 20


BloomFest

Head to the back of the Jefferson Memorial for a variety of live performances, including Japanese dance, clogging, bluegrass music, and double dutch. Free.

 

March 21


Opening Ceremony

Sword dances, modern choreography, and a performance by singer Ayaka Hirahara kick off the cherry blossom festivities. $5.

Blossom Kite Festival

Bring a kite or make one at the event and then let it soar in the sky. In addition, there’s Sakura Taiko Fest, a musical celebration featuring the beats of Taiko drummers. Can’t make it on Saturday? Another kite-flying event takes place at Oxon Run Park on March 29. Free.

Petalpalooza

Enjoy the spring weather during this all-day fête in Navy Yard. The block party includes kid-friendly fun, live music, and fireworks at 8:30 PM. Free.

National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade
