With Halloween fast approaching, it’s the perfect time for a good scare. October is also the month when the most birds pass over DC, so you probably need to clean your car, too. Enter the haunted car wash, a seasonal event in which the typically relaxing tunnel of suds is transformed into a spine-tingling experience with low lights and costumed employees banging on your windows.

Tommy’s Express Car Wash offers a “Tunnel of Terror” at the Manassas (9850 Liberia Ave.) and Waldorf (3185 Crain Hwy.) branches. The Virginia outpost has a radioactive theme with employees dressed as zombies. Drive over on October 23 and 24 from 7 PM to 9:30 PM ($25 per vehicle). In Maryland, expect a haunted farm vibe with a butcher’s station and undead pigs on October 30 and 31 from 7 PM to 9:30 PM ($24 per vehicle).

Showroom Shine Car Wash (5804 Ritchie Hwy., Brooklyn) has a location on the outskirts of Baltimore, and it’s celebrating Halloween with a haunted car wash on October 23 and 24. From 7 PM to 10 PM, find eerie fog and masked terrors popping out of the shadows while your car gets scrubbed. Entry is $25 per vehicle.
