About Perfect Saturdays
Looking for something to do this weekend? These great day trips are within a two-hour drive of DC.
Middleburg, with its brick sidewalks, historic buildings, and preppy equestrian vibe, is a charming destination for a fall day trip. Around an hour and 15 minutes from DC, the horse country hamlet has a lovely downtown area to explore. Pop into boutiques such as home goods store Crème de la Crème, stationery shop Every Little Something, and the cozy Middleburg Books.
You don’t need to hop on a horse to appreciate the town’s Hunt Country flair. Visit the Museum of Hounds and Hunting North America, which highlights the area’s sporting tradition in art and other artifacts. It’s right down the street from longtime lunch spot Middleburg Deli, an easy stop for sandwiches before or after the exhibits. Another option just outside the downtown center is Lost Barrel Brewing, a brewery located on a horse farm. The tree-lined property—which is especially pretty when the leaves turn—has picnic tables for beer flights and pub fare. Free line dancing takes place on Saturdays from 4 to 7 PM.
