About Perfect Saturdays
Looking for something to do this weekend? These great day trips are within a two-hour drive of DC.
The leaves are still hanging on to their branches, but if you’re already in a holiday state of mind, some festive activities are starting up soon. The DC Holiday Market in Dupont Circle kicks off on November 12, bringing a cheery village of more than 35 vendors for gift shopping. Find jewelry, antiques, and candles as well as seasonal treats such as hot candied nuts, chocolate bark, and warm drinks.
Once the sun sets, drive to Meadowlark Botanical Garden in Vienna for a merry light show. The annual Winter Walk of Lights opens on November 11, and the half-mile trail features colorful illuminations with a nature theme — think: butterflies, bears, and lotus flowers. Clutch hot beverages while you take in the twinkling bulbs, stopping at the waterfront gazebos for a moment torn from a Hallmark holiday movie. Afterwards, get cozy by the fire and roast marshmallows for s’mores. Tickets are $19 online and $24 at the park through December 3 and from January 1 through January 3. They are only available online for $24 from December 4 through December 31.
