About Perfect Saturdays

Looking for something to do this weekend? These great day trips are within a two-hour drive of DC.

Annapolis, Maryland

Drive time from DC: 45 minutes

Labor Day, the unofficial end of summer, is just on the horizon. Nautical Annapolis is a great destination for two seasonal pursuits: setting sail and cracking crabs.

Climb aboard 74-foot sailboats Woodwind or Woodwind II for a two-hour cruise. Departing from the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel, the wooden schooners sail around the Naval Academy, Annapolis Harbor, and potentially other landmarks such as the Thomas Point Lighthouse. Daytime and sunset options are available starting at $76.10 per passenger.

Once you come ashore, partake in a Maryland tradition: eating crabs. Cantler’s Riverside Inn is an Annapolis staple tucked away along Mill Creek. Hang on the docks while you wait for a picnic table, and then tuck in for a feast of steamers coated with J.O. crab seasoning. Crabs are the main draw, though you can also dive into peel-n-eat shrimp and other seafaring dishes.
