About Perfect Saturdays
Looking for something to do this weekend? These great day trips are within a two-hour drive of DC.
Middletown, Maryland
Cherry blossoms get all the glory around here, but late summer brings beautiful florals, too. Find vibrant yellow, fuchsia, orange, and red petals at Summers Farm in Frederick County, where a flower festival takes place from August 22 through September 7 (weekends only, including Labor Day). The farm is around an hour drive from Washington.
Take a wagon to the field of zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, and wildflowers to pluck a bouquet of six flowers. (You can pick more for an additional price.) Once you’ve completed the harvest, enjoy activities such as an obstacle course, mini golf, corn hole, and more. Pizza and local beer and wine are available for purchase. Early bird tickets are $18.32 a person until August 22 and then become $21.67.
Summer Farms isn’t the only destination for picking late-summer blooms. Find towering stems at Sunflowers of Lisbon in Fulton, Maryland, and Goldpetal Farms in Chaptico, Maryland, offers sunflowers and zinnias.
