Numerous members of the National Guard were spotted around the Reflecting Pool Monday morning when our photographer Evy Mages stopped by. The water feature was in the news all weekend, first when the blue coating President Trump had applied to its bottom began to peel off, then when authorities arrested a cyclist who said he felt a stray piece of the coating, and then again when Trump claimed that the US Park Police had made multiple arrests for vandalism around the pool.
A DC National Guard spokesperson did not immediately return a request for comment about whether the Guard were stationed at the pool or just passing by. Other law enforcement officers were on the scene as well. A Park Police spokesperson has not yet replied to a request to see arrest reports from the weekend.
