On Saturday, a crowd estimated in the thousands gathered at the Lincoln Memorial to call for President Donald Trump’s impeachment. The “Remove the Regime” protest sought to “peacefully descend on the seat of power in Washington, DC to demand that this lawless administration come to an END,” with a slate of specific demands: impeach, convict, and remove the President, per the Removal Coalition, which organized the weekend.
The protest was preceded by a program of action that started last Thursday. Led by Texas Representative Al Green, who had been censured for a previous protest during Trump’s last joint address to Congress earlier this year, activists marched to Capitol Hill to lobby lawmakers directly. According to organizers, Friday’s activities included additional lobbying training, a veterans’ rally, and a “night of thoughtful humor, political standup and hope.”
On Saturday, protesters gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for the main event under a gloomy sky. Activists heard speeches and music from the Dropkick Murphys & Earth to Eve. Then, the march proceeded along the Mall.
