A Perfect Day in Georgetown—According to a Realtor Who Lives There

Janice Pouch walks us through an ideal day-in-the-life.

When Janice Pouch moved back to DC—after a childhood that included residency in Brightwood, then later a career stint in finance on Wall Street—she and her husband chose Georgetown for its walkability, and the strong sense of community she says they both desired. They bought a home in the neighborhood 20 years ago, and still reside there now with their two daughters. Here, Janice takes us on a typical day in her life in Georgetown.

7:30 AM: Work out with Britt Daniels

“Britt Daniels is a master at curating a workout just for you,” says Pouch. “Prior to the start of each session he assesses my energy level, nutrition, and sleep to determine the ideal routine for me that particular day. I leave feeling energized, stronger, and ready to take on the day.”

9 AM: Café Georgetown for coffee with a client.

A day in the life of a real estate agent often involves client meetings. Pouch says she especially enjoys meeting at Café Georgetown for its quiet ambiance and private seating towards the back. But, take note: it’s a social cafe, not a working one. The no-laptops policy, Pouch says, makes it a great out-of-the-office location to informally catch up and talk about possible real estate needs. “It’s also a cute and cozy Georgetown staple perfect for both grab-and-go coffee or to “reset” and enjoy a little moment to yourself or with friends. They also do really fun custom-printed lattes!”

10 AM: A stop at the Compass Georgetown office.

In the office, Pouch says, she review the day with her assistant, Carol, who she says is always at-the-ready and keeps her on track. Together, she says they manage client needs with efficiency, customized service, and care, with the following motto: To every day its own purpose; to every hour its own demand. “And we love it!”

11 AM: Home previews and broker’s opens.

“In the ever-evolving DMV real estate market, it is essential to to know as much about the homes currently for sale as well as homes in the pipeline for sale. It is one of the best ways to stay ahead of pricing trends.”

12 PM: Lunch to-go from Tatte.

“This architectural Georgetown staple has had many iterations,” says Pouch. As a Tatte, it’s her go-to for lunch. It’s near the office so it’s quick and convenient to grab a salad or sandwich—I like the halloumi salad with salmon—along with an afternoon pick-me-up: A vanilla latte. Extra hot. All year round. No matter the season.”

1 PM: Pick up a client closing gift at A Mano.

A Mano has such thoughtfully curated and crafted gifts,” says Pouch.  “I love getting a customized or monogrammed game set for my clients who enjoy a good game night.”

2 PM: Consultations and private client showings.

The afternoon, Pouch says, is filled with consultations and private showings before rush hour kicks in. Most recently, she was excited to see a handful of homes in Georgetown with first-time buyers in Georgetown, then off to Alexandria for a round of home tours with “move-up” buyer clients.

5 PM: Meeting colleagues for “cocktail and catch up” at the Fountain Inn

“I so enjoy meeting a colleague here for drinks as the day winds down. We catch up with each other’s lives and talk about what we’re seeing in the DMV real estate market.”

6:30 PM: Take-out dinner and heading home.

On the menu after a long day: take out from Bistro Lepic. “My favorite dish is the pan-seared roasted almond trout and spinach, avec les pommes purées (bien sûr)!”
