Great Bars 2013: Number Nine

It’s rare to find a gay bar that swings two ways. When this P
Street locale opened a few years ago, it had a Miami-chic vibe, all white
with fluorescent-colored accents. Then it got hipster-industrial—smoked
mirrors, dark leather, and vintage-light-bulb chandeliers. Cosmetic
switch-ups aside, this has always been the highest-end gay bar in
Washington, with one of the best happy hours going: a two-for-one deal on
all drinks—including premium martinis served in portions sure to guarantee
a night of ill-advised fun. Insider tip: Arrive early and snag the
see-and-be-seen spot: a sofa and chairs arranged by the floor-to-ceiling
window fronting P Street. Open daily.
