Hidden behind a sexy chain-link curtain, star chef Kwame Onwuachi’s Afro-Caribbean restaurant at the Salamander hotel still feels like the place to be. The New York native—also behind Tatiana, one of Manhattan’s top restaurants—shows his love for DC with a crispy lamb dish that nods to Ben’s Chili Bowl and a decadent hoe crab served with a sauce reminiscent of our city’s Peruvian chicken joints. The move here is to share everything, especially larger plates like curried branzino, barbecue greens, and spicy, buttery Mom Dukes shrimp, which longtime fans will remember from Onwuachi’s former DC restaurant, Kith/Kin.
