Dr. Maia S. McCuiston’s journey in medicine and service reflects a lifelong dedication to children, families, and the broader community. Born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan, she pursued her undergraduate studies at Spelman College before earning her medical degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her general pediatrics training at the University of Michigan.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. McCuiston has brought her expertise to a wide range of healthcare environments, serving in roles that span direct patient care and leadership. Notably, she has held positions as a physician executive in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Today, she is the lead physician and owner of The McCuiston Group Pediatrics & Lactation, a thriving pediatric practice with two locations in Washington, DC.

Beyond her clinical work, Dr. McCuiston has distinguished herself as a dedicated philanthropist. Since 2015, she has been a Society member of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, supporting efforts in cultural preservation and education and is also an Honor Society member of College Bound, a Washington, DC-based organization devoted to mentoring and supporting students on their educational journeys.

Her advocacy for underrepresented minorities in medicine has been a hallmark of her career. As a board member and program chair of ElevateMed, Dr. McCuiston champions initiatives that expand physician workforce diversity, close financial inequities in medical education, and empower future physician leaders. In 2025, she broadened her platform by becoming a professional speaker for Sanofi as a strong proponent of universal screening for Type 1 diabetes in all children, underscoring her commitment to early detection, prevention, and improved health outcomes.

Through her clinical expertise, philanthropic contributions, and unwavering advocacy, Dr. Maia S. McCuiston continues to shape the future of pediatrics while inspiring the next generation of physicians and community leaders.
