Dr. Roya Pilcher is a board-certified pediatric dentist and the founder of Smile Valley Pediatric Dentistry, a Washington, DC–based practice known for its game-based, behavior-driven approach to children’s dental care. Parents choose her for her ability to turn what can be an intimidating experience into one that feels predictable, positive, and even fun for their children.
Dr. Pilcher earned her dental degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and completed her pediatric dental residency at NYU, where she received advanced training in behavior guidance, minimally invasive treatment, and the management of dental anxiety.
A core component of her approach is the S.A.F.E. Technique—a step-by-step method that transforms a child’s first dental visit into an interactive, game-like experience complete with clear milestones and small rewards. By turning each part of the appointment into an achievable “win,” children build confidence as they move through the visit, reducing fear and increasing cooperation in a natural, supportive way.
As both a pediatric dentist and a parent with firsthand NICU experience, Dr. Pilcher brings a deep level of empathy and perspective to the families she serves. She helped launch The Two Hearts Mental Health & Wellness Support Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, developed under the guidance of Dr. Shilpa Saroop, to provide comprehensive counseling and support for NICU families and staff.
Outside the office, she is a mother of twins and enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, riding horses, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
