The countdown to spring and the blooming of the cherry trees has begun and there is no better place to celebrate than at DC’s Home of the Cherry Blossoms — The Wharf.
Located along the Potomac River, The Wharf offers unobstructed views of hundreds of cherry trees in East Potomac Park and is just blocks from the famed Tidal Basin trees. Current predictions estimate that peak bloom will arrive around Saturday, March 30, just in time to celebrate Bloomaroo at The Wharf.
Bloomaroo at The Wharf is a free, blossom-themed festival with activities scheduled to take place along Wharf Street on March 30 from 2–9 p.m. This family-friendly celebration features a full day of live music, demonstrations, crafts, and so much more.
Whether you’re coming by water taxi, Metro, or car, plan to arrive early to take advantage of all the festival has to offer.
If you have kids in tow, head to the newest part of The Wharf. Here you’ll find the Kids Crafts Zone, which features koi kite decorating, a haiku creation station, balloon artists, and flower vendors.
In a nod to the origins of our beloved cherry trees, Bloomaroo also features a tea garden with matcha tea sampling.
For the over-21 crowd looking for a beverage that packs a bit more of a punch, make your way to one of the many Wharf establishments that will be offering special cherry blossom-themed cocktails.
Imbibe enough liquid courage and you may even find yourself dazzling DC with your vocal stylings on the karaoke stage at Recreation Pier.
For those who prefer to leave the music to the professionals, District Pier and Transit Pier stages will feature live music throughout the festival and showcase some of DC’s favorite bands. The sets will carry through until Bloomaroo’s grand finale: a stunning cherry blossoms fireworks display.
Bloomaroo® at The Wharf is scheduled, rain or shine, from 2–9 p.m. on Saturday, March 30. The festival takes place throughout The Wharf neighborhood along Wharf Street, District Pier (101 District Square SW, Washington, DC 20024) and Transit Pier (970 Wharf St SW, Washington, DC 20024). For more information, contact the venue or visit the event’s website.
