Family Fun
Where: Kingsmill Resort, 1010 Kingsmill Rd., Williamsburg, Va.; 800-832-5665.
What’s special: Kingsmill offers much to do on its property—golf, tennis, bicycles, a large indoor pool, a spa, a fitness center, and restaurants. If you wish to head off-property, you can step back in time at nearby Colonial Williamsburg.
The deal: The “Smores & Snores” package combines “camping” with creature comforts. The adults in the family can enjoy a spacious condo with a kitchen, dining room, and private patio or balcony. The kids get a taste of camping, thanks to a tent pitched in the living room, and a camper kit that includes a cinch sack, microwavable s’mores, and a glow stick (one per child ages 3-9). If the kids end up wanting to crawl into bed, there’s a pull-out couch. The resort offers complimentary wi-fi, and there are no resort fees. In addition, Washingtonian readers receive a $50 resort credit. Rates start at $292 a night for a family of four. To get this deal, click here or call 800-832-5665 and use the code SSMOREWASH.

Play a Historic Round
Where: Golden Horseshoe Golf Club, 401 South England St., Williamsburg, Va.; 757-220-7696. 844-207-938
What’s special: The Golden Horseshoe’s three courses were designed by father-and-son duo Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Rees Jones. The 45 holes are completely free of surrounding real estate and boast accolades such as being named to Golf Digest’s “2016 Best Golf Resorts in the Mid-Atlantic.” The 18-hole Gold Course reopened in July after a yearlong renovation of all of its greens, fairways, roughs, and bunkers. Today, with new forward tees, the course is especially friendly for female golfers. Serene and beautiful, the course is lined with trees and interesting water holes. The longer Green course feels as though you are out in the country and it, too, offers plenty of challenge. Great fun for juniors and beginners, as well as avid golfers, is the nine-hole Spotswood Course. Guests can stay at various properties surrounding Colonial Williamsburg. No matter which property you stay at, I’d recommend having a drink or light bite at the Williamsburg Inn’s new Social Terrace.
The deal: The “Golden Horseshoe Fall Unlimited Golf Package” includes hotel accommodations, one round of golf per day at your choice of the Gold, Green, or Spotswood courses, along with greens fee, cart fee, range balls, and complimentary same-day replay on any course. Washingtonian readers also receive a complimentary sleeve of Titleist Pro-V1 golf balls and a Golden Horseshoe logoed golf towel. Tee-time reservations must be made in advance by calling 800-648-6653. Be sure to mention you’re a Washingtonian reader when booking tee times to receive the gifts. Hotel guests are also entitled to discounts to all official Colonial Williamsburg exhibits and museums. Rates are per room, per night, and per person and range from $179 at the Governors Inn to $349 at the Williamsburg Inn. For additional information, call 800-648-6653 or click here.
