Will Durgin announced on Friday morning that he will be leaving Atlas Brew Works. The head brewer at the Ivy City outfit posted the news on his Facebook page.
“It’s with intense and conflicted emotion that I announce my departure from Atlas. For the past three years I’ve put my full effort and passion into this project and it has been a thrill to watch many of its goals realized,” he wrote.
Durgin co-founded Atlas in the fall of 2012 with friend Justin Cox. Since then, the brewery has been active in DC’s burgeoning craft beer community. In April, it hosted a competition to see which amateur brewer could best imitate the recipe of its flagship beer, Rowdy. In May, the brewery co-sponsored the Second Annual Funk Parade. In his announcement, Durgin did not state a reason for his departure, and made it clear that his future was wide open.
“What’s next for me probably involves a haircut and job interviews. Beyond that is anybody’s guess, but there’s lots of opportunity out there and I plan to take advantage of it.”
