Here’s something you don’t get to do every day: Close down a runway at Dulles Airport for a race.
Registration for the 2013 Dulles Day 5K is now open, and it comes with some seriously cool perks. First, you get to race on one of the flattest and fastest courses in Washington: the Dulles Airport runway. Second, the top male and female finishers receive two round-trip tickets from United Airlines.
The only catch: You have to finish the 3.1 miles under 60 minutes, since the airport has to reopen the course to airplane traffic. Only runners have access to the runway, so spectators will have to watch the race from the parking garage.
But whether or not you win, you’ll still be doing good by entering the race, since all proceeds benefit the Special Olympics Virginia, the Committee for Dulles Community, the Committee for Dulles Community Outreach, and the Washington Airports Task Force.
For more information and to register for the September 14 race, visit Potomac River Running’s website. Registration costs $30 until August 15 and $35 after.
