Rumors of troubles at M Street restaurant Serendipity 3—home of the $1,000 sundae—have swirled for months, and a recent incident suggests they have not been exaggerated. According to DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, officers on May 1 arrested co-owner Charles Britton Swan at 3150 M Street, Northwest (the restaurant’s address) on simple assault and felony threat charges. A source inside the situation says Swan was arguing with his partner in the project, L2 Lounge owner Rodrigo Garcia, when Garcia called 911. The source says Garcia claimed he was being threatened with a deadly weapon, and that police arrived shortly after and arrested Swan, who also owns Sign of the Whale, Rhino Bar, and Modern.
According to the source, the two men are now splitting their time at the Georgetown restaurant, with Swan overseeing operations in the morning and until 4 PM each day and Garcia taking over after that.
