The local Greek mezze empire, Cava, has expanded yet again with Cava Grill in Bethesda, a cafeteria-style, bare-bones version of the small-plates restaurants. Pick your base –rice, pita, or salad—and a protein and sauces to top it, then pay and eat. Our favorite so far is a chopped-sirloin patty seasoned with Greek herbs, paired with tzatziki, and topped with feta and cucumbers. Lamb and chicken were also flavorful. The Crazy Feta, a dip of cheese whipped with jalapeño peppers, and the hummus are just as addictive as those found in tubs at Whole Foods. Resist the urge to sample the menu with the mini pitas, which are hard to eat.
Cava Grill, 4832 Bethesda Ave., Bethesda; 301-656-1772. Open daily 11 to 10.
