Washingtonian Magazine’s DC Neighborhood Guide

About Washington, DC

While the TV version of Washington tends to dwell on our national monuments and federal buildings and Pennsylvania Avenue, the reality is a lot more interesting. Our region is full of distinct, diverse neighborhoods—with innovative local businesses, some of the best restaurants anywhere, creative spaces supporting homegrown makers and artists, and some seriously cool residents. (Did you know the first African-American artist commissioned for a presidential portrait works out of his home-studio in Silver Spring? Or that rap star Pusha T lives in Bethesda? Or that Arlington-raised Roberta Flack got her big break in a Capitol Hill bar?)

These places and people are integral to telling the full story of Washington. We hope our DC neighborhood guides can serve as a launching point for you to get to know some of them a little bit better.
