The Week in Food Events: A Festive Holiday Cocktail Class, Clementine Festival at Jaleo

Plus former White House chefs talk gingerbread houses.

Eat more oranges: All three locations of Jaleo continue their Clementina Festival from Monday through Sunday. Each chef rolls out several clementine specials for the week, barkeeps pour citrusy cocktails, and if you can’t get enough of the oranges, tables can order a box of fruit to share ($5).

Hoagie heaven: Taylor Gourmet brings back its holiday “12 Days of Hoagies” special from Monday to Sunday at all area locations. Drop in day or night for discounted sandwiches–any regular hoagie goes for just $6.

Tap takeover: ChurchKey’s total tap takeover returns on Monday. The event raises money and collects donations for Martha’s Table. Bring a can of food to receive a complimentary four-ounce taste of holiday beer from Belgium, England, Canada, Norway, or France. Admission is free.

Monday party: The Royal in LeDroit Park hosts its industry night series on Monday from 9 pm to 1 am. Guest bartenders pour sparkling wine cocktails, while entertainment comes in the form of holiday movies like Elf and Michael Bublé tunes. Stay for a midnight champagne toast.

Anniversary celebration: Rare Sweets in CityCenter celebrates its first anniversary on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7. Come to the open house event for complimentary birthday cake along with celebratory beverages. Guests also receive a ten-percent discount for holiday orders, including cookie tins and hot cocoa jars. There is no charge for admission.

Seafood 101: The District FishWife inside Union Market presents a seafood cooking class on Wednesday at 6. Learn how to make Vietnamese shrimp rolls and Thai salmon curry, and sample the dishes. Tickets ($48.47) are available online.

Italian feast: Mike Isabella launches an Italian holiday tradition this week with the first of many Feast of the Seven Fishes on Wednesday at G. The seven-course menu ($65) features a wealth of seafood dishes, which can be paired with wines for an extra $35. The menu will be offered on several evenings until the day after Christmas. Holiday drinking: The Melrose Georgetown hosts the Museum of the American Cocktail’s 8th annual holiday party and cocktail class on Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30. Some of DC’s top mixologists serve their speciality drinks, while author Phil Greene discusses his book To Have and Have Another: A Hemingway Cocktail Companion. Take home drink recipes to make at home. Tickets ($37.50 to $45) are available online.

Bourbon tasting: Bourbon in Adams Morgan hosts local spirits company One Eight Distilling on Thursday from 7 to 9 for a tasting of Untitled No. 5, a four year-old Tennessee sour mash whiskey finished in Sandeman Tawny Port barrels. Sip free samples of the spirit and other craft cocktails while mingling with the distillers throughout the evening.

Presidential baking: Former White House pastry chefs Roland Mesnier and Mark Ramsdell head to Praline Bakery and Bistro on Saturday from 3 to 5 for a book signing of The White House in Gingerbread. The book details their experience crafting holiday houses for five sitting presidents. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate will be served along with Praline’s mini pastries.
